All numeric ranges above include 5% VAT. Assessment, servicing and repair rows are separate options, not a package to add together. Your written quote lists the parts, labor, fluids, testing and any exclusions before you approve the work. Additional faults or dismantling require a separate agreement.

For a confirmed component fault, see the detailed Audi mechatronic repair prices or Audi clutch replacement options. Routine maintenance prices are in our Audi service cost guide.

Repair the faulty part, overhaul or replace the gearbox?

Replacing the complete transmission is one option, not the starting assumption. A warning can come from wiring, low voltage, fluid loss or a control fault. We compare the condition of your original gearbox with the cost and availability of a suitable replacement.

ChoiceWhen it makes senseWhat to compare
Fluid service or an external repairThe gearbox is due for service, or testing identifies a leak, connector, wiring or selector problem. The correct fluid specification and the actual leak or electrical repair. Fresh oil cannot restore worn friction material.
Repair the original gearboxThe failure is confined to a repairable component and the rest of the assembly is serviceable. The failed part, access, parts choice and final testing. Mechatronic, clutch, flywheel and converter work are different jobs.
Overhaul the original gearboxSeveral internal components are worn or damaged, but the casing and core can be rebuilt. The strip-down findings, parts being renewed, usable parts retained and total fitted cost.
Used replacementThe original has extensive damage and a compatible donor offers a worthwhile saving.Traceable identity, condition, included components and supplier cover. Allow for fitting and potential repeat labor.
Remanufactured or new replacementA suitable unit is available and its cost and warranty suit your ownership plans. The rebuild standard or genuine part number, core-return conditions, delivery and installation.

We explain the finding, the recommended work and any realistic alternative before you decide. If dismantling is needed to establish the damage, its cost is agreed first; it does not authorize a complete rebuild.

What an assessment and fluid service could cost

These are typical job estimates using the published ranges, not records of completed repairs or fixed offers. They show how a separately agreed assessment and service can appear on one invoice when inspection finds no component repair is needed.

2018 Audi A3 2.0 TFSI with a wet-clutch S tronic

Typical job estimate: AED 1,365 including VAT.

Assessment AED 315, plus applicable transmission oil, filter and service labor AED 1,050. This assumes the fitted gearbox supports that service, inspection finds no damaged components, and the quoted filter is accessible without extra dismantling.

The service includes the specified oil, agreed filter work, temperature-controlled level procedure and leak check. Clutch, flywheel and mechatronic repairs are excluded. A warning or shudder that remains needs further diagnosis, not another oil change.

2016 Audi Q7 3.0 TFSI with Tiptronic

Typical job estimate: AED 1,890 including VAT.

Assessment AED 315, plus a fluid service with the matched filter or sump, standard labor and final level checks AED 1,575. The estimate assumes normal access and no leaking cooler lines, damaged hardware or confirmed internal fault.

A torque-converter repair, valve-body work or gearbox removal would be quoted separately. We check the transmission identity before ordering the fluid and filter; the model badge alone does not determine the parts.

Booking only a scheduled fluid service does not automatically add the assessment shown in these estimates. We agree any additional diagnostic charge with you first.

When to stop driving and arrange recovery

Stop safely if the car loses drive, leaks a substantial amount of fluid, overheats, grinds or engages gears with severe banging. Smoke or a burning smell also needs urgent attention. Do not keep selecting Drive and Reverse to force the car to move.

A mild shift change still deserves inspection. Photograph any dashboard message when safely parked and note whether the problem happens cold, hot, in reverse or under acceleration. Do not clear fault codes before the assessment.

Call us to discuss recovery when the car cannot be driven reliably. Follow the warning instructions in your Audi owner’s manual. The exact warning matters, but the absence of a warning does not make slipping or serious fluid loss safe.

Our Audi warning-lights guide explains other dashboard warnings.

Common Audi gearbox problems we diagnose

Delayed engagement, rough shifts and loss of drive can have different causes. These checks help us identify the repair instead of replacing parts from a symptom alone.

A trouble code identifies a circuit or operating condition detected by a control unit. It does not prove that the component named in its description is defective. Its status, related faults, operating data and test results provide the context. Clearing codes too early can remove useful evidence.

S tronic, Tiptronic and Multitronic gearbox repairs

We check the vehicle data and gearbox identification during assessment. You do not need to know the gearbox code to book. The same Audi model can use different transmissions depending on its engine, drivetrain, production year and market.

S tronic dual-clutch transmissions

S tronic includes several six- and seven-speed designs, with wet or dry clutches and different layouts. Pull-away shudder, missing gears and harsh changes can involve clutch wear, hydraulic control, the flywheel or another vehicle system. The fault has to be isolated before choosing a component repair.

A mechatronic repair addresses the hydraulic or electronic control assembly. A clutch-pack replacement addresses the friction assembly. Neither automatically means the whole gearbox needs replacing.

Tiptronic automatics

These use a torque converter and internal gearsets. Delayed engagement, shift flare or vibration can call for fluid, pressure-control, valve-body or converter checks. A converter fault needs its own diagnosis; it is not priced as an S tronic clutch job.

Multitronic CVTs

Older applications use a different transmission design and fluid. Engagement, control and internal chain or pulley concerns need CVT-specific checks. A conventional automatic or dual-clutch service procedure is not interchangeable with it.

Manual and other transmissions

Manual clutch, hydraulic and flywheel concerns have separate repair options. R tronic and electrified drivetrains also need identification before parts or procedures are selected. Tell us the model and problem to start.

How an Audi gearbox fault is tested

The gearbox works with the engine, power supply, selector, brakes and other control systems. The sequence starts with the driver’s complaint and narrows toward the hydraulic, electrical or mechanical cause.

  1. Check when the fault happens

Record the complete dashboard message, selected gear, temperature and whether the symptom appears cold, after a long drive, in reverse, while creeping or under acceleration. Recent battery, engine, fluid or gearbox work matters.

  2. Decide whether a road test is safe

A controlled drive can reproduce an intermittent complaint and compare it with measured data. It is not appropriate with serious fluid loss, overheating, violent engagement, heavy mechanical noise or unreliable drive.

  3. Read gearbox and related fault codes

Engine torque information, battery voltage, selector signals and communication faults can affect gearbox behavior. Stored and present faults plus suitable measured values are reviewed before useful information is cleared.

  4. Confirm the exact gearbox

The code, control identification and vehicle allocation determine which fluid circuit, test and filling method applies, and whether coding, parameterization or basic settings may be required.

  5. Check power, wiring and external influences

Low voltage, wiring, selector inputs, engine misfires, mounts, a dual-mass flywheel, driveshaft or CV-joint fault can create overlapping complaints. These checks prevent a gearbox repair being used to chase a fault elsewhere.

  6. Inspect leaks and the correct fluid circuit

Identify the source, then check level at the specified temperature and by the procedure for that transmission. Condition, odor and debris add evidence but fluid color alone is not a diagnosis.

  7. Test the relevant subsystem

Evidence may direct testing toward clutch operation, mechatronic or valve-body control, solenoids, sensors, hydraulic behavior, torque converter, flywheel or signs of internal bearing and gear damage.

  8. Explain the findings and repair cost

Only then do we compare a targeted repair, overhaul or suitable replacement, with the supplied parts, transferred components, installation work, programming, verification and warranty stated separately.

What is included in gearbox repair and overhaul?

Repairing an isolated fault

A targeted repair keeps serviceable components and addresses the confirmed failure. It may involve a leaking seal, damaged wiring, sensor, solenoid, valve body, clutch assembly or torque converter. Access varies considerably: a small failed part can still require substantial removal work.

For mechatronic or clutch work, the estimate names the part being repaired or replaced, its condition and any related fluid or setup requirements. A flywheel is added only when its condition justifies replacement. Replacing a control assembly alone is not a complete gearbox overhaul.

Cleaned gearbox components are measured so reusable parts, wear items and damaged hard parts can be recorded before reassembly.

Rebuilding a worn or damaged gearbox

An overhaul involves removal, dismantling, cleaning and inspection of the internal assembly. Measurements determine which clutches, bearings, seals or hard parts need renewal and whether the original casing remains usable. Metal debris, overheating or damage to multiple components can make the repair more extensive.

The final parts list follows the internal findings. We explain any change to the agreed estimate before continuing. A complete rebuild quote also needs to account for required fluids, installation parts, commissioning and final checks, rather than describing only the bench work.

Comparing parts and shared labor

Where suitable alternatives exist, the quote identifies genuine, named aftermarket, rebuilt or used components. Those descriptions are not interchangeable. Shared access may reduce the additional labor for a justified flywheel or seal repair while the gearbox is already removed.

We also check related mounts, driveshafts and engine-running problems when the complaint warrants it. Replacing gearbox parts will not resolve a vibration caused elsewhere in the car.

Clutch and flywheel measurements help determine whether the original assembly can be repaired or requires a wider strip-down.

Used, remanufactured and new replacement gearboxes

A used gearbox can reduce the initial parts cost, but its advertised price is only part of the installed total. We check compatibility, condition and supplier terms before fitting. Two units sold for the same model and year can differ in gearing, drivetrain allocation, connectors or control requirements.

  • Exact match: gearbox code, relevant part revision, vehicle allocation and supplied components.
  • Condition: casing, shafts, connectors, fluid or debris findings and any available donor history or test report.
  • Complete cost: transport, removal and refitting, seals, fluids, missing components and applicable coding or adaptation.
  • Supplier cover: when it starts, the available remedy and whether removal, fresh fluids, programming or freight are excluded.

Before fitment, the used gearbox is checked for the correct code, casing damage, shaft condition, connectors, plugs and transport impact.

A remanufactured unit should have a documented rebuild and testing standard. An exchange unit may require a refundable core deposit or an acceptable old gearbox. A new unit still needs its exact part allocation and installation scope checked. We compare these options against repairing your original transmission, including availability and the written warranty.

Installation, coding and final road-test checks

A replacement assembly may arrive without the converter, clutch, mechatronic unit or other attached components. The quote identifies what is supplied, what can be retained and what must be renewed. Transferring a damaged component can leave the original problem unresolved.

Before installation, we address any confirmed cause that could damage the repaired or replacement unit, such as overheating, contamination, a cooling fault or incorrect fluid. Required seals and single-use hardware are included in the agreed fitting work.

The correct oil, filter arrangement and filling temperature depend on the gearbox and fluid circuit. Some transmissions contain more than one circuit. We do not substitute a universal fluid or generic flush for the specified procedure.

The gearbox is supported and aligned after the unit, transferred components, seals, fluids and mounting hardware have been confirmed.

Checks before handover

  • Applicable coding, configuration, basic settings or clutch adaptation after the mechanical work.
  • Fluid level and leak checks at the required temperature.
  • A post-repair scan and checks for the original warning or fault.
  • Drive and Reverse engagement, relevant upshifts and downshifts, and a safe road test under the conditions that caused the complaint.

A reset cannot restore a worn clutch, stop a physical leak or repair damaged gears. The completion record identifies the checks performed and any follow-up needed. If a warning, slip or abnormal noise returns, contact us promptly instead of assuming it is normal adaptation.

Repair timing, written quotes and warranty

When will the car be ready?

We confirm the assessment appointment first. A fault visible during initial checks takes a different amount of time from an intermittent hot-running problem or a gearbox needing removal. After diagnosis, we explain parts availability, the proposed work and the expected completion date.

For an overhaul, internal inspection can change the parts order. For a replacement, delivery, compatibility and required setup affect handover. You receive an update if the findings or supply timing change. A same-day repair cannot be promised for every gearbox fault.

What will the quote show?

The failed component or inspection stage, parts choice, labor, fluid and filter work, required software procedures, testing, VAT and payable total. Additional damage found after opening is explained and priced before further work proceeds.

Warranty depends on the work and parts supplied

The applicable repair warranty is stated on the approved quotation and invoice, including its duration, any mileage limit, covered parts and workmanship, exclusions and claim procedure. There is no single period that can accurately describe every repair and replacement option on this page.

Used-part supplier cover is separate from installation workmanship. A supplier may offer exchange or credit for the unit without paying for repeat labor, fluids or transport. We explain these terms before ordering so you can compare the complete cost and responsibility.

Audi gearbox repair questions

Can an oil change fix a jerking gearbox?

It can help when the cause is a serviceable fluid or level issue, but it cannot fix worn clutches, damaged gears or a confirmed electronic fault. A leaking gearbox also needs the leak repaired. We assess a shifting complaint before recommending a service.

Do I need to know whether my Audi has S tronic or Tiptronic?

No. Tell us your model and what the car is doing. We identify the transmission during assessment and may request the VIN later to match parts. Mileage, service history and a warning photo are useful if available, but are not required to make contact.

Can I bring a gearbox quote from another workshop?

Yes. We can review the listed work and assess the car. Comparing only a parts price can miss removal, fluids, setup, testing and warranty differences. Our recommendation follows the condition of your vehicle and the fault we confirm.

Does quattro servicing include the gearbox?

Not automatically. Depending on the drivetrain, coupling or differential fluids can be separate from the transmission circuit. The quote names each assembly being serviced so gearbox oil and separate driveline fluids are not confused or charged twice.
